Tokyo Transport Pass, only 1000yen per day (available since Dec 1, 2011).

From December 1, there would be a specially priced TOKYO TRANSPORT PASS available for purchase. It’s very good to use within the Tokyo metropolitan area. If you cannot see the pictures clearly here, please see this PDF file.

It is said that every customer buying the TOKYO TRANSPORT PASS will receive a special
Visit Japan Card. The Visit Japan Card qualifies you for various
discounts and special off ers at about 1,200 participating facilities
including accommodations, tourist attractions, and commercial facilities
in Tokyo. You can see this website for details. In fact, you can still download the Visit Japan Card directly without buying this pass.

Price:
2 Day Pass Adult ¥2,500 Child ¥1,250
3 Day Pass Adult ¥3,000 Child ¥1,500

Customers who may use the Pass: Visitors from abroad who hold rail tickets to the free area
＊Those who wish to use the Pass are asked to show their foreign passport when purchasing it.
＊Child fares are intended for children ages 6 to 11.
＊Up to two children under 6 years may travel free if accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
＊Designate the date you will begin using the Pass when purchasing it.

Inside the red zone is the area that you can have unlimited rides with the Tokyo Transport Pass. Please note that the yellow lines are not included. The yellow lines are the traffic lines to Narita or Haneda Airports.

The Pass may be used on:     
1.Local and rapid JR East trains (excluding reserved seats) in the designated open seating zone within the 23 Special Wards of Tokyo    
2.The Tokyo Metro and Toei subway systems    
3.The Nippori-Toneri Liner    
4.The Tokyo Toei Streetcar Arawaka Line    
5.The Toei Bus system (excluding late night buses and reserved seat buses)

Originally there is a one day ticket called “Tokyo Tour Ticket (Tokyo Free Kippu)”. The free area is totally the same. It cost ¥1,580 for one day. Now you can buy the 3 Day Pass with only ¥3,000. It could save you 1740yen!

Take a closer look at the free area. Please note that the Yurikamome line is not included. So please don’t use the pass while you would spend your day in Odaiba area.

 
JR東日本：おトクなきっぷ via kwout

This is the free area of “Tokyo Tour Ticket (Tokyo Free Kippu)”. They are totally the same. You should calculate whether you would spend over 1000yen daily in your trip. Usually I would spend around 1000~1500yen one day. So the original Tokyo Free Kippu is not so good for me. However, this new Tokyo Transport Pass is a good fit. By the way, if you really want to save money, Tokyo metro subway has a discount ticket called Tokyo Metro Open Ticket. I think it is the cheapest way to tour Tokyo. Nine Tokyo Metro subway lines have covered most areas a tourist would see. It’s enough already, although there may be a little bit inconvenient without using JR trains and the four Toei subway lines.

Tokyo Metro Open Ticket (1-day: 600yen, 2-day: 980 yen): you can use the ticket with unlimited rides of the nine Tokyo Metro subway lines. A regular one day pass costs 710 yen, however this tourist version is only 600 yen for one day and 980 yen for two consecutive days. This special Tokyo Metro Open Ticket is only available at Narita Airport. You can buy it at the first floor of either terminal 1 or terminal 2 at Narita Airport.

The Tokyo Transport Pass can be purchased at JR EAST Travel Service Centers
●Narita International Airport Terminal 1 (B1F)
　JR EAST Travel Service Center (Open 365 days a year, from 8:15 until 19:00)
●Narita International Airport Terminal 2 (B1F)
　JR EAST Travel Service Center (Open 365 days a year, from 10:30 until 20:00)

●Haneda Airport International Passenger Terminal
　JR EAST Travel Service Center (Open 365 days a year, from 11:00 until 18:30)

Since the Pass is being sold as a trial service, they would like to know what we think of it and if we tourists really need it. You can  fill out a questionnaire to tell them.

Sales Period:
[3 Day Pass] December 1 (Thr), 2011 to January 29 (Sun), 2012
[2 Day Pass] December 1 (Thr), 2011 to January 30 (Mon), 2012

Other information
1.Refunds: only when the Pass is unused and valid, a refund can be offered after deducting 210 yen for the refund handling fee. For details, please ask the ticket booth where it was purchased.

2.Payment  can be made by cash (yen) or credit cards. They accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and JCB.

3.The starting date of the Pass may not be changed.

4.Refunds cannot be made for canceled or delayed train service.

Finally they list three model Courses in the Free Area. The rail fares shown in parenthesis are normal fares applied when the TOKYO TRANSPORT PASS is not used. It would exceed 1000yen easily.
